The title suggests, this one is an extension of my last post "Sarcasm Rules". I am not kinda couch potato, but my fingers click the button, as soon as i see "Sarabhai v/s Sarabhai" being showcased. I can watch the series, again and again and again. I say this after watching each episodes atleast 10 times. I think the series were telecasted during 2005. Since then, its a ruling rooster.
For those caught unaware, Sarabhai v/s Sarabhai is a sitcom set in quintessential upper class family in Mumbai. The elite who stays in luxurious apartment in a posh area. The smart family is made up of Indravadan Sarabhai and his wife Maya, who live in an apartment with their younger son Rosesh, and their elder son Sahil and his wife Monisha live in the opposite flat.
The profuse Sarcasm flows in the veins of the entire family (except that of Rosesh). Its a clean humor with no typical odd comedy which finds a place in sitcoms telecasted at present.
The reasons for me drooling on this show are many. First being the character of Maya Sarabhai played by Ratna Phatak. The sarcasm she uses to depict a situation, the way she loves Rosesh and her domination on Indravardhan (her husband) is just fantastic. Maya has a very good vocabulary. She is the one who makes a sentence quite difficult to understand for commoners. A typical upwardly mobile lady who is a Page 3 personality, who has a taste for everything that's class apart, she thinks so. A person who abhors "middle classism" whether it be words or manners. The close victim of this behavior of hers is her daughter-in-law, Monisha. Her name originally being Manisha, which was changed as it sounded middle class.
The next eye-candy is Monisha, the centre of attraction (quite in negative way). She bargains, screams, misbehaves and does all those thing, which is against the family's social status. Her leaving home at the drop of a hat (she is all packed with clothes packed shabbily in a suitcase), is my favorite of all: "Saahil, me ghar chodke ja rahi hun" She is shown storming out of the house. Everytime, she does this, Sahil, her husband gives her enough a reason to not leave. The reasons are quite funny, one being..."Darling, there's a 50% sale in the mall" And she stops then and there!!!
The series would not be so good without Sahil. His comments are the icing on the cake. A perfect husband and son at the same time. Mind you, its a very job of all. His solutions do work. Ohh, yes...he is a surgeon by profession which doesn't affect the make-do of the sitcom at all, he is never shown working. Neither is Indravardhan Sarabhai, his father. A foodie by heart, Indu (he is so called) loves his wife but hates the milk which is a regulation Maya has devised for him.
Then there's funny Roshesh with his weird poems, jee memsaab maid Radhabai, servant Vittal. Also, Sonya (daughter of Maya) and her tech-savvy husband. All make a great package indeed. The celebrities who keep visiting this household fit in so easily that their 'guest' tag is shed in seconds.
How i wish that this series is started again!!! Miss you all at Sarabhai v/s Sarabhai!!!

Slum doesn't have dogs anymore
A loud applause to something which is better than the rest, the best. Something which has given a new meaning to the word slumdog. something which proves knowledge doesn't require education. something which affirms love knows no boundaries, no religion. Something which we now know as Slumdog Millionaire.
I loved the movie to the core. I felt as i was reading a book. What depressed me was the attitude of Bollywood towards it. The hosts of KBC denying to play a role in the movie. Second, making a furor about the portrayal of Indian slums in the movie. Let me tell you, the movie was far more better than showing those slum children becoming a local goon or smoking cigars. Why people here are not moving over family drama and celebrity hype. We can see that movie didn't hype and performed well compared to recent movies which didn't do well in spite of great hulla. There's a trend which has been created, mar down good things by negative publicity. Shooting of Deepa Mehta's WATER was banned in India, which was shot in Srilanka finally. Indian media was full of headlines, "Indian movie WATER won accolades abroad". but the day when the shooting was stopped, it stopped being an Indian movie.
Has it been a movie which shows slums in poor light, the furor of public would have been well accepted. but this shows a slum boy to be a millionaire. second thing, the use of word dog is very controversial, but this was used to show the mediocrity of the person living in slum. What about the TV Reality shows, which are making kids work day and night. Still, no one comes forward to ban these shows which is robbing kids of their innocent childhood, teaching them green words. When Ashu, a dhaba owner can win roadies and big boss, why cant a slumdog. ha! double standards.
One thing that i didn't like about Slumdog Millionaire, is that all the publicity has just been given to the elder actors. not the kids who gave a brilliant performance. A huge round of Applause for the kids. I sincerely want India to come up with better movies, each time, every time.

One Hundred Shades of White
I was rambling through the old library between ruffled binded books..not able to make my mind as to which book to read...then i saw a pink lady glancing at me through the corner of her eyes, our eyes met and i picked her up...she was none other than One Hundred Shades of White written by Preethi Nair.I read the cover and i liked it but was not able to bring myself to read it..i asked my sis, that whether she is interested in reading it...she agreed to issue it. She read it and recommended me..I read the first page not because i was bang on to read it but there was nothing else for murdering time at the doctor's place. First few pages and the book proved a magnet to silly old iron chunk (mee).
Amazing book I can say, will say and keep saying it until someone chokes mee. The writing style is amazing. The book has been written in first person. And it becomes interesting wen one sees the same life through two different eyes. Once it is Maya who speaks about her life and then comes Nalini, her mom who tells what all is already said by Maya but through her point of view. I particularly liked when Mom says my children liked the visit to Madame Tssaud's museum, they were happy but when it cums to Maya she blurbs that visit to the wax museum was soo boring.
I could completely relate to the book. I found myself in Maya. she is jus like me. Rummaging through life, searching for answers, and not able to come 2 agree with anything. not that she doesn't trust anyone but everything seems so different to her and Oh! how cud i not match her roller coaster life which is common to the hilt between us. I can say she is my alter ego. this is the only book till now which has made me cry. i felt the book.
I interprete this book in my own way. Gratitude keeps our life going. We should thank each and every person/situation/incident in our life. we don't know what teaches us what. may b some decades later we gonna hit upon the same thing which we are facing now and at that point we won't have anyone to thank to. We cannot miss upon forgiveness. it will help us see ways through difficulties.
we always see situations our own way. we never understand what the other person might be thinking of it. how is it to her. even if for a micro milli second we watch the world through other person's eyes, i bet the whole perspective would change. we wont b hurting anyone anymore and life would seem so much better. Thats what the writer hints upon when she skips from maya to nalini.
Truth is not only what we see. but truth is also what others see. and my truth and her truth can be completely different. this is what we should come to agree with life. and somewhere in my deepest of core i believe there are one hundred shades of white. and i like d bright one.
