The Eternal Chase

All our lives we are chasing something or someone. From the toy that we were not able to buy to the person we were not able to marry, some wishes are never fulfilled.

I remember when i was young, my mom used to take me to this provision store. i used to see a doll hanging among other toys. I very well knew my mom cannot buy that doll for me, not just because of the price but also because i am well past the age of dolls. i never even asked the owner what was the price of that doll. i never knew that it is okay to hoard things in the house, probably because we never had the concept of hoarding because we were always moving from one house to the other. So, when i became a mother, i got my daughter a doll even before she was ready to play with the dolls. Yes, it was the same kind that i used to see in the stores when i was young.

While growing up, i always wanted to dress up for festivals in proper ethnics that i saw my cousins do. but i have always wore hand-me-downs from cousins. so basically there was no fashion sense. so when i could afford dresses finally, current trends in fashion did not matter. i wore what i always wanted to wear. and interestingly, that became my fashion sense and made me stand tall among the fashion mimics.

Sitting pillion on a bike was like a dream. my father owned a scooter and i did not have a brother who had a bike. And being a plumpy little girl, bikers feared me or i had low confidence or whatever was the case, i was not able to bike-ride all my childhood. Interestingly, my husband drives just a motor bike and since past eight years, i am being driven by him with wind in my hair and satisfaction in my heart.

we did not have an internet connection so i used to go to cyber cafes to write and chat with my friends. it was annoying at times to sit in cyber cafes for hours together with someone keeping a watch. and it was quite claustrophobic. but today, my job requires me to write and write on the computer all day with uninterrupted wifi and no bothering from people around as i am a freelancer.

during school days, i yearned to be friends to some girls and boys whom i looked upon as inspiration. but i did not have that confidence. my cousin used to make me chat with random people whom i liked. she had this amazing confidence. however, all this helped me a lot today. i can talk to whomsoever i want to with no hiccups, i always have conversation starters and now people come and talk to me. not forgetting those friends in school, i am friends with them as well. I have passed on this trait to my kiddo as well who can easily start a conversation with strangers. and by start i mean start and not just answer their 'which standard' questions.

looking back, i had so many wishes while growing up and i had thought i would not be able to fill them ever. but today, i have so much to look forward to. all my questions that troubled me are answered on their own. all my wishes are fulfilled and am quite happy. i do not worry about the future because the past has molded my present so beautifully that i have realized that i should not interrupt the ways of life

Hope I could become like you, Mom

It's not everyday that I think about her. She has always been there for me. But yesterday, while waving off a little girl to school in my neighborhood, I started thinking about her. She is an amazing lady - My mom. We do not know much about our mothers. We will never be able to know, I think. Like every mom, mine is different too. This is her story. She comes from a joint family, where there was not a single day she spent her day alone, staring at the walls, the way I do. A pampered granddaughter, she was loved by one and all, not just because of her looks, but respect towards elders and love for everyone. She used to live in a town, where her grandfather commanded great respect. Brought up in a rich family, she never ever knew what frugality meant. At a young age of 19, her family married her off and sent her to a city in another state.

From a carefree life in a town to an anxious life in the city, from a famous life of the town to an unknown place in the city, she soared her wings and settled in the new nest. There was no LPG at her home back in town. She used to prepare food on the coal lit stove. She did not know the concept of cooker and many more things. While her favorite hobby was to run to the fields with her granny back in town, here she struggled with her three sister-in-laws in the kitchen. But, being a fighter and oblivious to politics, she established herself. She tried new recipes, respected everyone and soon came to know the ways of the city. After a year of her wedding, I was born. And after three years, my sister. But till that time, family discords led my parents to live on their own in another rented place.

I was three and it was time for my admission to a school. My father was not in a well-off situation at that time. He decided that I should study in a Hindi medium school because he had studied in the same and so had my mom. But, my mother argued and fought and did whatever she can do to persuade my father for my English medium schooling. He agreed. They hunted for a school and the day of my interview arrived. The school was a new one. With only nursery and junior kindergarten, the school was supposed to expand gradually. At the interviews, principal asked my mother about her schooling. She told the truth that she had studied only till 11th standard. She got disinterested in studies as she loved spending time with family. The principal asked that how would she teach and groom me as she was less educated.

This was a shocker for my mom. She asked the principal if less educated parents do not have the right to get their children a better schooling. The principal retorted that that was not the case. But, the child will feel a laggard in some time if she is not able to cope. My mother promised the principal that her child will not be a laggard. She would do whatever, be it enrolling me for tuition or anything else, to make me cope. Her confidence coaxed the principal to admit me. Surprisingly, my mom taught me so well that I was one of the toppers in the class. I never went to tuition till 9th standard and was always a topper in the class. My mom proved others that mom's education does not matter but her confidence does. She has always been instrumental in grooming both me and my sister's lives. My sister too never went to coaching classes but was a topper in the Science Stream.

There are so many incidents that have shaped my life. But, my mother's determination towards my education is something that always remains etched in my mind. I can never thank her enough for all the things she has ever done for me. She has made me strong and always persuaded me to drive my life on my own.

Adlabs Imagica – A Magical Place for People of Every Age

For people like me who did not have the time or money or company to travel round the world or even an interesting country like India, Adlabs Imagica could be a one phrase answer. For the uninitiated, Adlabs Imagica Review is a theme park situated at Khopoli, a tiny place in Maharashtra. It is around an hour and a half from Pune and couple of hours from the capital city, Mumbai. This theme park opened the curtains in the month of April and has been creating curiosity since then. Early birds who went there did not have much to say. However, we went there pretty six months after the launch. And hence, here is an account of this place - that is as described by my friend, ‘Disneyland of India’. Let me put the imagination of your people to rest by saying that it does not have any kind of association with Disney – hence, no Mickey Mouse or Donald Duck here. In simple terms, it is very Indian or say “desi”. So, we have Alibaba and Chalis Chor, Salimgarh, Rajasaurus, etc.

A note of caution for people who have already packed their bags without reading the entire article – do not go there without tagging three-four of your friends along. Yes, this place needs a group, so a lone ranger will get bored and return with a gloomy face. We began our journey from Pune and so, we reached there within 80 minutes. The sad thing about the route is that there are no directions or map towards the park. However, the locals are a great help! The rainy ambiance towards the Park suddenly turned into sunny when we reached there. The sweltering heat made us crib to no extent. The surroundings of the park were spotted by people carrying camera and clicking pictures of anything and everything that came their way. As the doors opened, sharp at 11, people (including us) swarmed inside. The picture inside - A huge walky-talky teddy bear was being hugged, pushed and clicked with kids in tow. A man with tall bamboo legs (obviously artificial) was difficult to reach, so we just waved him and moved forward. The park is divided into zones, Europe, India, Arabia, America and Africa.

The sun took our toll. The sight of water bodies appealed us and one of us, even wanted to dive inside to save himself from the sun. Adlabs Imagica Review is full of coordinators who can easily make out confused faces and appear from nowhere to guide them. One of them guided us to take the rides first and then go for indoor fun, because the rains were regular visitors in the evenings. However, sun and rides are a bad combination. We did not heed his advice and moved for indoor games. First, we went for ‘Alibaba and Chalis Chor’. We are taken inside a tomb and shown a video wherein a person is advising us to kill the chor or thieves in the journey. We are made to sit in a train like structure and handed laser guns. The journey begins. There are various statues dressed in Arabian costumes. We had to aim the laser point and shoot them. Yes, we are awarded points for this. It was fun turning kids again. Then, we headed to the India zone. If you like ghosts and desire to meet them, visit Salimgarh where human dressed as ghosts climb on the wagon you are travelling!

Every attraction at Adlabs Imagica Review is thoughtfully designed. There is something for everyone. For people who fear actual rides, the place has virtual rides too. A couple of rides have water elements; hence, people should carry a hand towel or an extra pair of clothes. People can enjoy the open rain dance too in this theme park. Everything is in place here. Adlabs Imagica is a great combination of indoor and outdoor rides. What we loved is their makeover of Disneyland into Indian theme park! A lovely place that is not only easily accessible but also does not burn a hole in your pockets! Adlabs Imagica even provides transportation services from Mumbai and Pune as well. So, what are you waiting for! Pack your bags and head to the wonderland, Adlabs Imagica!

Why can't I?

Why can't I get a close close friend whom I can hug while on a run!
Why can't I have a girlish girl who enjoys all things that seem like fun!

My Life ain't short of girls if that is what you think
But none matches my wavelength, to whom i can link

I want a girl to praise my awful dressing sense
And promise to take me to shopping in a dense

A girl that loves eating, shopping, and blabbering just like me
I found many with one, but not all qualities you see

A friend that calls me in the middle of the night
Wants to talk to me and make up for that fight

I found a dear dear friend in my little sister
She is so far away and has a friend in her mister

But But But I thank God for so many girls in my lives
Talkative, funny, shy, motherly, busy, and many are now wives

I won't stop complaining for giving me a lonely life out here
I would like you to stop my heart sinking by offering me a beer!

The Good Ol' Jalebi

The post is about sumptuous juicy delicacy, impossible to ignore by all those with even a tiny sweet tooth - our very own Jalebi!!! No, the sweet has no translation in English or might be any  other language, which makes it all the more interesting or tasty for that matter. However, the mighty sweet has traveled all around the globe with fans ready to kill for it at drop of a hat. What makes the history of the sweet interesting is the fact that Jalebi is included not just in the  menu, but also in phrases, songs, commercials, connotations and what nots.

Remember a commercial of a cooking oil, where a young lad of around 10 years is seen on the railway station in the first scene. Sitting on a bench there, with all his luggage, he looked pretty annoyed with all those going on his life. Among a host of unknown faces, he recognizes a known one and shouts, "Ramu Kaka"!! Ah, you remember the ad! Read the further conversation. Ramu Kaka spots the child, "Arrey, tum yahan?" The boy, "Me ghar chod ke jaa raha hun (I am leaving the home)" Ramu Kaka tempts the child, "Par mummy ne toh ghar pe garama garam jalebi banayi hai (But your mom has prepared steaming hot jalebis). Yes, the child returns home. Aha, the boy fell into the trap.

Then there's another advertisement by an olive oil brand. It addresses all those who think olive oil cannot be used for frying. The ad's targeted Indian homes who are slowly and gradually joining the small strata of olive oil users. What the ad says, "Yes, I am Italian. But I can make a mean Jalebi". Oh, so Jalebis are mean, eh? May be, they are... going by the way they seduce the sweet lovers, cleanly hiding the calorie content!

What's special about this delicacy is that it does not belong to any cast or nation, nor does an age-group. People from any and every age group fall for this sweet delicacy. It's equally favourite with Hindus, as it is with other castes. I suggest the independent candidates opting to stand in coming elections, should chose Jalebi as their symbol to garner maximum caste-less votes.

Jalebi is not spared even by literature. Do you know that there's a phrase in Hindi which makes good use of the shape of the sweet. It goes like this, "Jalebi ki tarah seedha hona" For those ignorant of the sweet, let me introduce you to its shape - spiral. The phrase translates to, "a person who is as straight as a jalebi" The phrase is a taunt to person who claim to be innocent and are actually not, are referred as "jalebi" Interesting, isn't it?

Cut to the present times. Recently the humble sweet was featured in a Bollywood item number. The living equivalent of Jalebi, Mallika Sherawat, gyrated to the tunes of a song, proclaiming herself to be 'Jalebi Bai'. The humble Jalebi lost all her innocence. Post the shoot,  the siren was seen promoting the featured song along with the movie, posing with the jalebi. (No, she ain't relished the sweet going by the calorie counts). Our jalebi sure made headlines (in a Bollywood gossip column, though) and many a Indian baraatis danced on the tunes of this song, making it a huge hit.

Never had I thought that a jalebi will highlight so much of space of my blog. But, it sure has. Don't forget to grab the jalebis from the nearby store (don't forget to ask the connoisseurs where you will get the best one or the entire charm of the sweet will be lost). Some like it dipped in steaming or chilled rabri and others like me have it whatever way it's presented. Jalebi :)

Summer's Here...

Never I felt writing a post on summer. But here it is.

It was not visible.
I rose from my bed, hunted for it here and there. I stood by the window for good 20 minutes, but could not see it. I am in love with it. Everything else just fades away. I can say its happiness personified.

Stealthily, she sneaks into my bedroom through the window. I smile, rub my eyes and hug her. "How come you are here, today? I kept coaxing you to meet me. Here you are, uninvited but making me feel pleasant." She is the most awaited life in winters - the first ray of the sun in my bedroom. Throughout the winters, I use to wait for her. Sometimes, I just stood in balcony, waiting for her. And when the sun reached my home, even for meager 10 minutes, I made the most of it, not caring an inch about the suntan.

The onset of summers bring a whiff of pleasant memories. It's like I just woke up after a deep slumber. All the laziness that winters injected in me, just goes away like the wind. I am all set to exercise, cook, play, work....just everything. Above all, summers bring a new zest - to do something I never did. Actually, summer gives the time to do so. The long days, the smiling sun and the blooming home.

Summers bring the taste of coolers after an everlasting walk towards the cafe. It brings back the umbrella and the shadow of a tree. The taste of kulfi during the long stroll post dinner. Smiling mango lovers, cash counting cola wallahs, welcoming ice-cream stalls and vanishing hunger. Aah! summer's here.

However much I have enjoyed, hugging the first ray, I started sweating in just 15 minutes. Slower the day started in winters, quicker is it in summers. At just 11 am, I felt like its almost 3 in the afternoon. When I had begun writing this article, summer was looking lovely...but the unfolding day makes me wonder - where's monsoon?

Getting married to your boyfriend

Weddings are always a grand affair in every person’s life, especially of the girls. And if she is getting married to her long-time boyfriend, then the grandeur of the affair only increases. Now, your relationship of 7 odd years is translating into lifelong happiness. Things are bound to change. However, if you are in a live-in, nothing much changes. However, there is whole lot of changes when both of you are in a long-distance relationship and are going to tie the knots soon. Girl, you are literally going to be a part of his lifestyle. He will not only talk to you every morning, but also be able to see you, right?

This article tells you what are the things you need to look forward to when you are getting married to your boyfriend. First of all, the fundamental rule of every relationship is not to expect anything, then be it your lover who can do anything for you. Expectations are the breeding ground of miseries. Sheena married her boyfriend of three years. Initially, everything went good but later their bedroom became a battleground. Sheena was a simple girl who watched movies a lot. The rosy pictures painted by some of the romantic movies, made Sheena expect the same things from her husband too. Girls, expectations are not bad, but to believe that everything that you expect will be fulfilled in minutes or say, months is wrong.

Problems arise when both husband and wife work. Girls, things were different when you stayed with your parents. Parents are the angels who give everything to you on a platter. Don’t jump to conclusions. Even your husband will make you available all those things that your parents gave you, but gradually. Now, when both of you are working, things are bound to change and ease in a matter of few months. For this, both of you should talk often. The best thing is to discuss the finances, which can create a problem. However, for the domestic work, both of you will have to decide, who will do what chore (even if there is a domestic help). This will clear our confusions that are bound to arise.

What if, your would-be husband lived at a bachelor-pad with his friends! Troubles are bound to arise. Yes, your boyfriend is all-set to marry you. There is no doubt in this. But post-wedding, his lifestyle is bound to change, which most of the boys are not aware of. Suddenly, they are struggling with LPG cylinder issues, which they never ever thought of. Or for that matter, they still want to go to movies with all-boys group rather than with you. The best one is getting used to home-cooked food or getting used to a lady in their home. It is on you girl, to give him space and time to adjust to all this.

Marriage is not a rocket science, right girls. And even if it is, then who knows it better than you to tackle it. So, just keep it simple and make your wedding an extra-ordinary affair. Because, this is all you wanted for years. Isn’t it!!!

Without you, Mom

Without you, Mom

Without you, Mom, it will never be the same.
Earlier, you were just a hug away, but now I have wait for lengthy ten numbers.
Without you, Mom, it’s not that easy.
There’s no one to wake me up in the morning, except that stupid alarm clock.
I don’t hear you sing a crazy song, nor I hear you and Papa chatter over that news.
Earlier I used to drink my cuppa lemon water alone in my room.
Now, I sit in the living room, repenting the time I missed with both of you.
I don’t hurry for breakfast. There’s no one to nag me to have one.

Earlier, I used to be upset over an empty cornflakes box.
Now even that full container doesn’t coax me to have one.
No, I don’t even like bread-jam either.
Also, there’s no-one to look after my clothes.
Nor does anyone scold me for just sitting at home the entire day.
I don’t even like afternoon naps.

When I am working on my laptop, I look behind to check if by any chance, you are sitting there, overlooking my work, my new ads, my friends pictures, et cetera.
I yearn for the strong coffee made by you.
The hot chapattis made just for me.

I wish that I could make your post-lunch tea for you.
Or just accompany you to the vegetable market.
Above all, I miss your advices, tips, talks, stories, chats, etc.
I ignored most of the things that you told me.
But today when I am sitting alone, everything comes across making me smile.
What if, all of us could have stayed together or were just a step away, not miles!

Yes, my eyes are moist writing this.
And I am yearning to be with you.
I won’t be able to tell you all this as I know you will start crying just like me.
So, a warm letter to you with lots of hugs.

It's time

It's time.
They say that everything in this world has a definite time. A definite time to express your love and a definite one to wave goodbye. Even my mom says that we have been granted a definite time to stay on this earth. But how come this definite time to leave the earth clashes with others who will have to stay. For what reason, someone's mother leaves her just one month before her wedding. And why another one's father is struggling with major disease.

Such a devastating news cannot be shared with anyone. And even if shared, what will the friends do? They won't be able to stop the time. They will just share the grief. The emotional ones will cry an hour or two, enough? This is not a situation anyone wants to be in.

Some people yearn for family. They live alone with no-one to live for them. Sometimes they wish to die. But they pass their entire lives in loneliness. And on the other side of spectrum, there are people who grieve on losing someone important in their life.

Why God hasn't made a device that arranges meeting between such people? This system will bring people together and make this earth a happy place to live in.

A cool matrimonial ad

Now that I have seen almost 23 years of my life and most of it without anyone who I could in the true sense call as a friend…..I have been thinking now for a while as to how my spouse oughta be…………

I am not looking for only a beautiful, slim and an intelligent girl…….They are all cliché The ones that matter are:

The first prerequisite I expect of my wife --- no it isn't the ability to understand me, that's the second---- the first one's a sense of humour for me and all my nonsense

She must sleep in my lap and allow me into hers. She must run her hand into my hair and fight me with pillows as often as she can.

She must allow me to disturb her, Which I will, ---no matter how busy and serious she is and I am--- , while she goes about our household chores.

She must sit with me shoulder in shoulder when we watch the late night movie together and must oblige to have a midnight walk anytime in the night.

When the curry isn't nice and I stare into her eyes, she must straight away go and make an omlette for me.

When she is downright tired she must flirt with me to win a cup of tea or a glass of cold water. She must be ready to blow a kiss any time any day and any place. By the way I take kiss only on lips.

She should call me nicknames and how innovative she coins out new ones the better and must be prepared to confront some deadly ones in return. She can call me 'Tu' or anything as am not at all particular about those pronouns.

She got every right to beat me up when I annoy her while she watches those dready serials. She can also extract what she wants of me on women's day. And I am also ready to share her pre-marital crushes and secrets.

On those rare occasions when we might fight and then go on a mourning spree, it can continue for the night. The next morning must again be normal.
I aint promising her a paradise but yes she will always get more of my love than our children.

And finally, she must have a higher life expectancy than me. I may not be able to live without her…..

A phrase-full life

Just imagine a day in your life
Everybody expresses just through idioms
Speaking in a language that’s phrase-ful
Turning the English language o so wonderful

When nervous, I’ll get butterflies in my stomach
Ants in the pants, if anxious for upcoming
For happiness, its twinkle in the eyes
And other times, I’ll feel like a fish out of water

If it’s not enough, it’ll be a drop in the bucket
And a good lunch-pack will give mom thumbs up
My best friend’s home is at a stone’s throw
And school would always be a far cry

Friends, we’ll cook up a different language
And speak like this to avoid mom’s fury
We will delete all the “ifs” and “buts”
Turning ourselves into idioms from idiots

Taking my last breaths in office

However dramatic the title may sound, but leaving this office would indeed be a tough task. Suddenly, even the most pathetic thing in the office will make you miss it. As soon as the reverse counting begins, you start feeling nostalgic. Oh!!! Today's the last Monday that i will be reading the Sunday Times.
No more drinking water from this dispenser.
No more reading the free issue of "Campaign India" or for that matter, Namaskar, By the Way, India Today Woman etc etc.
No more asking Bossy to go home early.
No more combined lunch hours and boxes.
No more "creative" discussions.
No more "saw that ad of so-and-so, it's so third-class, I tell you. Isse acha toh apan bana lete".
No more, "they again took our idea and made an Ad"
No more punching the attendance cards.
No more pulling legs of each other.
No more "dalwadas" or "sev khamni" or etc. etc.
And yes, no more cursing the clients.

Time passed quickly after joining this place and one day I come to know, I am celebrating my second anniversary of joining. It's been more than two years that I am working here. When I had joined, I didn't like this ambience even an inch. I use to promise myself, just 6 months and I am leaving this place. I am here just for "experience". As soon as I get a good opportunity, I will jump to it. But the first call from a competitor company to get me in, had made me change my mind. "I must be doing a great job, and that's the reason the competitors want me to join them". I couldn't believe that I had denied them for a fatter pay-check. Then it clicked me, "Ah…I am loving it here".

A salary raise at 6 months, made me sure to hang in here. However, the cursing and blaming continued. People left and many more joined in. Felt bad for the ones leaving and welcomed the newbies. And there came a time, when I was the only girl left in the strength of 30. This too passed. By this time, I had prepared myself to handle isolation.

Neha. She joined in as a Sr. Client Servicing Executive. She was given the desk next to me. And this was not new. Right from my early days in school, newbies were given a place next to me. Both of us gelled easily. Not just for one reason, there are an umpteen of them. Beginning from our home-towns to our tastes, everything matched to the tee. My life in the office changed drastically. We were like twins. We knew everything about each other, even the reactions and pro-actions. But, she too left due to her wedding.

But she fulfilled many of my dreams - A dream of having a close friend, a close colleague and yes, a dream to leave the office soon. I needed a solid reason to leave the office. And I think the reason came to her belief in me and God. No, this article is not dedicated to Neha. But even though we spent just 6 months in the office together, yet around 70% of my office talks would be consumed of her.

It’s just a week to go and then I will be leaving this office. When I saw our ex-employees visiting office often, I used to wonder that why is it they come back. Now, I got the secret. There’s a charm here. This charm will never let you cut your umbilical cords with it. It has been a professional mother to me. And will always be. It’s been my first job and most probably the last one.

Being the emotional one who cries at the drop of hat, it would be very tough for me to say "goodbye". But as they say that "best of friends must part", I wave a goodbye to everyone who contributed in changing me.

When there are lines upon my face from a lifetime of smiles,
When the time comes to embrace for one long last while,
We can laugh about how time really flies,
We won't say goodbye 'cause there would be tear in my eyes

Miss you everyone.

This too shall pass

"Life has a funny way of sneaking up on you
Life has a funny, funny way of helping you out"

Irony. The word is indeed a small one, but has the ability to upturn one entire life. Remember "The Diamond Necklace" by Guy de Maupassant. The entire life of the protagonist is spent in repenting for borrowing the diamond necklace. Her idea of looking beautiful on one awesome night proves to be a nightmare. She and her husband had to pay through her nose for the lady's dream of living a lavish life. The story is indeed a sad one, and gives me goosebumps even now. I make sure that I don't borrow things just to prove myself for a couple of hours.

Another beautiful story was in our curriculum for the 10th boards. The details are hazy. And the Google search didn't yield results. The story is on Manorama, a typical teenager who wants to fall in love and marry someone who is romantic as portrayed by movies. She used to get love letters by her school crush. However, their teenage love doesn't end up in marriage. Manorama is married. She is not so happy with her husband. Her husband is not romantic at all. The old love letter reminisces and she in a rage once told her husband that he is not romantic at all. And what he reveals now, is the best thing about this story. He says that all the letter that her school-boyfriend used to give her were written by HIM. And the story ends. Romanticism is not measured by the poems but the unshared feelings.

O'henry, the king of stories with a twist, has written magnificent ironies. The most loved are "Twenty years after" and "The last leaf". Twenty years after is on the friendship of two young guys who decide to meet after twenty years on a particular place. The surprise that awaits them forms the irony of the story. "The last leaf" however is on a sadder note. O'henry tries to prove that the most unexpected person helps you in the time of need. The author has beautifully portrayed the characters and the background.

I am fond of ironies right from my childhood. And somehow these have inspired me to write one on my own. Mentioning my story in this article would be amateurish thing to do. But it meets the purpose of my article. "Terminal Love" by me deals with the love that goes into a relationship to make it strong.

Ironies give me a high. It motivates me to linger in a bad situation. As it might happen that an irony is just waiting to take all my blues away. Ironies can be summed up in one phrase, "this too shall pass".

The post with no title

Yet another year ends.
I just read my last year's post made on December 31, 2009.
The post reflected my happiness. I had vowed to be happy and cheerful this year.

This year was quite a puzzle. It was an unopened gift for her or I think, she had expected it to be a gift but it turned out a nightmare. She would have liked to erase this year from her life, if it was possible. Right from January 1, she was not happy with her personal and professional life. In the bargain to get happiness, she even lost her strength and strong will.

"Girl, I thought you were strong. You can emerge out of a pool of sadness without affecting even a pebble around you". But I think, if something doesn't happen according to your will for an umpteen number of times, you start loosing confidence. They say, when you make peace with yourself, you make peace with God. Lately, she lost confidence on heaven above, and to an extent this is because she was lost in herself. She lost her identity in toto. A bubbly girl turns into a cry baby or delicate darling.

She is an independent girl who never waits for others. But the weakness is gripping her and she is not able to break the shackles. Was her decision to take life head on, wrong? Will she get what she wants out of her life? Or she will loose herself once again. I seriously wish she is OK, plain OK, so that there are no more upheavals in her life. God bless (if there exists one)

In a Relationship

"We are in a Relationship"

What importance does this status holds for a normal couple. Does it mean these two can do anything for each other? What is the intensity of this status? How do two entirely different persons come to a conclusion that they want to be in a relationship, when for others they already exist as a related couple. Confusing, isn't it!! I believe that relationships are like staple diet. To each his own. It depends on the background of the person, the situation in which he is brought up and the friends he is surrounded by. It also depends on the kinds of relationships one has been into and one has seen.  Also, one cannot learn from other relationships. Because like snowflakes, no two relationships are alike.

I think there is so much that goes into a relationship. Some people say they don't need any effort to keep their relationship going. But I think they lie. They have got so habituated by each other's presence that they don't even realize that they are sacrificing their likes and dislikes just to keep the other person happy. Then there are people who won't sacrifice their present lifestyle to accommodate the new tenant in their heart, mind and cellphone. They continue living like a person not in any relationship. The other person keeps on adjusting to this person's lifestyle.

Often, couples are classified distinctively. The wife of the fellow man is a dominating one. Or the husband is a pretty nasty fellow, he talks to other women in presence of his wife and so on and so forth. But I think, no person is same all the time. The wife who seems dominating to others is being trained so. Her husband wants her to be dominated because he loves her as the lead in their family. The husband who is eying other women in the presence of his wife has been allowed to do so, because his wife knows his nature is such. Relationships are all about compatibility between two beings. Relationships don't need the stamp of other people. Even when the couple fight, they need to sort it out on their own. It might happen that these stamps ruin their relationship as this is when past matters surface and engrave the situation.

If we rewind our lives, then we come to know different breeds of couples. Wives who could anything for husbands, even change their first names along with second. Sometimes forget the family they come from and transform into a different being. But the present wives, who are many a times, girlfriends first belong to a little different shade. The information age has turned them into persons who are not just an accessory to the family, but beings who shouldn't be dependent on men. They shouldn't consider men their whole and soul, but just as a mere husband. This is again a stamp by chauvinists, that if a women is modernist, she shouldn't treat her husband as her God.

All said and done, the knowledge about relationships won't come through my one article or a thousand others on Google. It doesn't even come by consulting a self-made expert or other people. It comes by your own experience. And then you realize how wrong were other people.  This makes you vow that this won't happen when "we're in a relationship".

'Coz there are only a few
Don't be so busy
That you forget your family
As it ain't good to be wise every time
Sometimes try to be a li'l silly
Wishing you and your near ones

View through an Ad agency's glasses

What if the half-empty, oops...half-full glass...whatever, is placed in an ad agency!!!
Let's see....

We'll start with the creative director!!!

The creative director says, Give me the CDR file, the water is not looking genuine.

The copywriter views the glass for 10 minutes, and another 5 minutes and finally comes up with a 12 page brochure concept.

The client servicing executive desperately tries to convince the client that "glass is whatever the client thinks it is"

The client asks for three more options on the glass.
(yes, he is given a half-empty glass, half-full glass and a glass which is half)

The accountant of the ad agency feels the payment for the glass is still pending.

The peon confirms whether he will have to do yet another late night for this glass thing.

The media people are deciding to install an actual glass at the mall to garner a better response.

The suppliers inform that they wont be able to give more such glasses at a short notice.

The coordinator is busy making dummy bills on the quotation approved on the glass.

The merry-makers order a ton of pizzas because they know that they will have do a late night whether the thing is solved or not.

Meanwhile the glass is having a good nap!!!

The half-empty half-full glass

This is what i found on a website!!! opinions on a glass (filled with water upto 50% level). I think it will give you food for thought!!!

The optimist says the glass is half full.

The pessimist says the glass is half empty.

The project manager says the glass is twice as big as it needs to be.

The realist says the glass contains half the required amount of liquid for it to overflow.

And the cynic... wonders who drank the other half.

Anyway... Attitude is not about whether the glass is half full or half empty, it's about who is paying for the next round.

The professional trainer does not care if the glass is half full or half empty, he just knows that starting the discussion will give him ten minutes to figure out why his powerpoint presentation is not working.

The ground-down mother of a persistently demanding five-year-old says sweetheart it's whatever you want it to be, just please let mummy have five minutes peace and quiet.

The consultant says let's examine the question, prepare a strategy for an answer, and all for a daily rate of...

The inquisitive troublemaker wants to know what's in the glass anyhow... and wants the rest of it.

The homebuilder sees the dirty glass, washes and dries it, then puts it away in a custom oak and etched glass cabinet that he built himself using only hand tools.

The worrier frets that the remaining half will evaporate by next morning.

The fanatic thinks the glass is completely full, even though it isn't.

The entrepreneur sees the glass as undervalued by half its potential.

The computer specialist says that next year the glass capacity will double, be half the price, but cost you 50% more for me to give you the answer.

The first engineer says the glass is over-designed for the quantity of water.

The second engineer says (when the half is tainted) he's glad he put the other half in a redundant glass. (Based on a Dilbert cartoon by Scott Adams)

The computer programmer says the glass is full-empty.

The Buddhist says don't worry, remember the glass is already broken.

The Dutchman would suggest to both pay for the glass and share the content. Then tells you he will have the bottom half.

The personal coach knows that the glass goes from full to empty depending on the circumstances, and reminds the drinker that he can always fill the glass when he wishes.

The grammarian says that while the terms half-full and half-empty are colloquially
acceptable the glass can technically be neither since both full and empty are absolute states and therefore are incapable of being halved or modified in any way.

The waiter will hurry to replace the glass with a full one.

The magician will show you the glass with the full half at the top.

The physician says that the glass is not empty at all - it is half-filled with water and half-filled with air - hence, fully filled on the whole!

The musician says he/she is unimpressed with the promoter of the concert for not providing more alcohol.

The ineffective organization would discuss the question during the board of directors meeting, convene a committee to research the problem, and assign tasks for a root cause analysis, usually without a complete explanation of the problem to those assigned the tasks. The directors would consider the problem to be above the pay grade of those assigned root cause analysis tasks.

And more strangely:

The dog just wonders: can he eat the glass or will you throw it so he can bring it back

The cat wonders why the glass is only half full (or empty)... is it a trick... poison perhaps...

The eternally optimistic eccentric would say, the glass is consistently overflowing (or is that the neurotic?...)

The person who is no longer trapped in The Matrix (whatever one might call him/her) says: "There is no glass..."

More generationally:

The adolescent student says the glass is just another dirty trick played by the teacher to prove that students are dumb.

The 'perfect' 1950s housewife would not leave the glass sitting there long enough for anyone to consider the question, but would scoop it up, wash it up, dry it to a gleaming shine and put it back in the glass cabinet in a jiffy. No half-full or half-empty in her world... just a full glass or an untidy one.

The obsessive compulsive postpones the question until the level is checked, and checked again, and again, and again...

The phobic says yuck, someone drank out of it and left their germs on the glass.

What an opinionated glass!!!
